Challenge: An urgent need for security and simplicity
Bantam Technologies, founded in 2016, is a cybersecurity managed service provider (MSP) and managed security service provider (MSSP) on a mission to help businesses, regardless of size, defend against the explosion of cybersecurity threats. The company operates a Security Operations Center (SOC) and a growing managed services practice that protects customers with cloud and endpoint security, while also providing cybersecurity training and support for operational continuity.
In 2023, Bantam’s customers were asking for a password manager they could trust to keep their identities, credentials, and secrets safe. But Bantam knew any vendor they chose had to promise outstanding security without creating an administrative burden while Bantam was rapidly expanding.
Taking 1Password from Bantam’s internal use to their customer base
Bantam Technologies chose 1Password Enterprise Password Manager - MSP Edition for its industry-leading security, operational efficiency, and collaborative vendor-partner relationship. The company already used 1Password Enterprise Password Manager internally, which made extending it to their customers a natural next step. Other vendors were “too vague” by comparison, says Dale Moyer, SOC Manager at Bantam, whereas 1Password’s approach was clear.
At the core of 1Password’s security architecture is its Two-Key Derivation model. It combines a user’s account password with a unique, machine-generated Secret Key to unlock and decrypt data. Because this Secret Key is never stored on 1Password’s servers, it adds an extra layer of protection, helping keep customer data secure even in the event of a breach.
Unlike other providers that encrypt password fields only, 1Password stores all item data in an encrypted state. 1Password doesn’t hold any encryption keys, so it has “zero knowledge” of client content. It also uses end-to-end encryption that protects all content within a vault, including metadata like stored website URLs and vault names, which other password managers may not encrypt.
Additionally, 1Password Enterprise Password Manager is the only password manager that uses the SRP protocol, an advanced feature that prevents unauthorized parties from stealing credentials or reading non-secret information sent to a server.
1Password is very transparent about its zero-knowledge model, and that transparency, combined with its approach, instills real confidence in our customers.

How Bantam drives user adoption with data and education
Once Bantam chose 1Password for its customer base, the company focused on driving user adoption by educating customers on how easily 1Password could solve some of their most urgent risks.
Now, when Bantam’s security team onboards new customers, they start by demonstrating their risk in real time, using a custom script to surface plaintext password files, such as spreadsheets, on their devices. “It’s an eye-opening experience that immediately highlights their current security exposure,” says Chris Bareham, the SOC Team Lead at Bantam Technologies.
The team then uses the 1Password MSP Watchtower security feature to quantify risks such as weak, reused, or breached passwords. Watchtower acts as a real-time monitoring and reporting tool, providing visibility into the security posture of passwords and saved items in a client’s vault. With Watchtower, Bantam can highlight areas of weakness and quickly fix them with actionable insights. “This data-driven approach often serves as the primary catalyst for adoption,” says Moyer. It also enables Bantam to provide ongoing education to customers, effectively shifting from reactive IT troubleshooting to a more proactive, strategic security advisory role.
1Password tools also help Bantam customers import their credentials from built-in, browser-based password managers such as Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. These fall short of modern security best practices and create vulnerabilities because they weren’t designed to secure access for an entire organization.
The ease of onboarding allows clients to get rid of browser password managers immediately to drive adoption faster.

15 minutes for onboarding, 3 months for self-sufficiency
1Password helped deliver one of Bantam’s key priorities: improved efficiency via simplified client onboarding and reduced administrative overhead.
With same-call setup and migration support in 1Password for MSPs, the team can now create a client tenant and onboard new customers within a day, and often, in 10 to 15 minutes during a single call.
After their initial onboarding, customers quickly become self-sufficient, usually able to handle account recovery and new user onboarding themselves within 90 days. As a result, ongoing support is dramatically reduced, freeing the Bantam IT support team to focus on other priorities. “The self-service capability of the platform reduces our administrative burden for account recovery and new-user provisioning to almost zero,” says Bareham.
Expanding managed services with 1Password
By adopting 1Password Enterprise Password Manager - MSP Edition, Bantam has transformed its client security posture, streamlined its managed services motion, and established a 100% trial-to-paid conversion rate.
We’ve never had anybody who we’ve brought onboard who hasn’t stayed with 1Password.

SOC Manager at Bantam Technologies
Now, Bantam plans to expand its managed services offering, keeping 1Password at the core of its identity security strategy as it takes on more IT services for customers. The team also plans to integrate other evolving offerings from 1Password, including 1Password SaaS Manager. “As these various tools mature and tie together, it will be easier for Bantam to sell a more holistic security solution to our customers,” says Moyer.
1Password’s client-first approach, with its high level of engagement and responsiveness, mirrors Bantam's dedication to its own clients. Access to the 1Password team through Slack channel communications, along with fast turnaround times, shoulder-to-shoulder support, and collaborative presentations to new customers, has further grown Bantam’s confidence in the partnership.
“The relationship is invaluable,” says Bareham. “The fact that we know 1Password has our back as strongly as we’ve got our customers’ is just outstanding.”
