Cracks are appearing in the foundations of access management

1Password's 2025 report is based on a survey of over 5,000 knowledge workers in 5 countries. It uncovers the areas where the Access-Trust Gap is widest and employees access protected resources without proper governance and controls.

AI use is high, but policy compliance is low

73% of employees are encouraged to use AI for some part of their workloads, but 37% say they only follow their company’s AI policies “most of the time.”

The app ecosystem is plagued by SaaS sprawl, shadow IT, and invisible access

Over one-third of employees (38%) have successfully accessed a prior employer’s account. Over half of employees (52%) have downloaded apps without IT approval.

SSO is falling short for SaaS access governance

70% of IT and security professionals say SSO is not a complete solution to secure employee identities. At least one-third (34%) of SaaS apps are not protected by SSO.
